Wood products continue to grow Oregon’s economy

Oregon’s forest and wood products sector provides more than 61,000 living wage jobs with an annual payroll of $3.3 billion.

Primary forest products are the leading source of jobs in the forest sector, providing approximately 20,399 jobs across the state. Primary wood products include:

  • Softwood and hardwood lumber and plywood
  • Engineered wood products
  • Composite wood products
  • Posts, poles and timber
  • Millwork

  • Heating

Primary wood products are just the start, as the entirety of the tree can be utilized for a wide variety of useful products. Secondary wood products, which utilize the left-over wood from the above primary wood products, include:

  • Wood furniture like kitchen cabinets and countertops
  • Engineered wood products like plywood, OSB and particle board
  • Secondary paper products like cardboard containers
