Wood products continue to grow Oregon’s economy
Oregon’s forest and wood products sector provides more than 61,000 living wage jobs with an annual payroll of $3.3 billion.
Primary forest products are the leading source of jobs in the forest sector, providing approximately 20,399 jobs across the state. Primary wood products include:
- Softwood and hardwood lumber and plywood
- Engineered wood products
- Composite wood products
- Posts, poles and timber
- Millwork
- Biomass energy
- Heating
Primary wood products are just the start, as the entirety of the tree can be utilized for a wide variety of useful products. Secondary wood products, which utilize the left-over wood from the above primary wood products, include:
- Wood furniture like kitchen cabinets and countertops
- Engineered wood products like plywood, OSB and particle board
- Secondary paper products like cardboard containers
