Oregon leads the nation in wood products

Wood products are an integral part of our lives, whether in Oregon or anywhere else across the nation.

We’re proud to say that our home state leads U.S. production of softwood lumber and plywood and is also a leader in engineered wood, and home to the first mill in the United States to manufacture structurally certified cross-laminated timber (CLT).

A critical part of our role as a leader in wood product production is our state’s mills, which can have major benefits to the rural communities where they are located. In fact, the Oregon forest products sector employs over 61,000 Oregonians with family-wage jobs, mostly in rural Oregon. Those jobs consistently pay higher than the state average wage, and in some counties like Clatsop and Lincoln, pay almost double the average wage. Check out this happy story of a smiley face planted on a hillside in Polk County by family-owned wood products manufacturer, Hampton Lumber.
