Celebrate Father’s Day with a walk in a forest and a pint of beer

beer in a forest

If you’re looking for the perfect outing for Father’s Day, check out the Oregon Garden’s upcoming BrewCamp, a weekend (June 15-17) of craft beer, music and camping in the 80-acre botanical garden.

Take a walk through the Rediscovery Forest in the garden for some shade under the Douglas-firs. This demonstration forest is managed in partnership with the Oregon Forest Resources Institute to combine education, research and public enjoyment.

And did you know that having a glass of beer is one more way you’re enjoying Oregon’s forests?

An article from Stouts and Stilettos points out that over half our nation’s water, a primary ingredient in beer, comes from America’s forests. They asked The Nature Conservancy’s Chris Topik about this connection. Chris explains that “healthy, resilient forests are vital in ensuring good, clean water.”

The way forests do this is by preventing erosion and serving as filters for small mountain streams that lead to the basins supplying water for a variety of uses. That’s why it’s so important to ensure we’re properly managing our forests.

If you attend the BrewCamp this Father’s Day weekend, don’t forget to raise a glass to Oregon’s forests, an essential ingredient for your tasty beer.
